Padres Pummel Braves 8-3, Leave DarkHorse Pick in the Dust

So much for that starter edge. The Padres waltzed into Truist Park and torched the Braves 8-3, turning our -144 Braves pick into expensive confetti. Reynaldo López, the supposed ace with the 1.86 ERA advantage? He got shelled. The Padres offense treated him like batting practice, stacking runs early and often while Walker Buehler—yes, the guy with the 5.36 ERA we were supposed to fade—did just enough to keep San Diego in control.

Atlanta's vaunted bullpen advantage? Irrelevant when you're chasing a five-run deficit. The home field bump? Didn't matter when the visitors were teeing off. That 3-2 Braves win the day before turned out to be fool's gold, a brief mirage before San Diego reminded everyone they own this season series 4-1 now.

The math said 60-62% true probability for Atlanta. The scoreboard said the Padres had other plans. López couldn't deliver, the Braves bats stayed cold, and our modest positive expected value evaporated faster than a fastball down the middle. Sometimes the starter edge is real. Sometimes it's a trap. Tonight was decidedly the latter. Padres cash, DarkHorse eats the loss. That's baseball.
