Pirates Steal One in the Bronx, DarkHorse Pick Cashes Easy

The Pirates walked into Yankee Stadium and did exactly what DarkHorse predicted: they won outright, 5-3, making our Pirates +1.5 pick look downright conservative. Turns out you don't need Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, or Austin Wells to win ballgames—but it sure helps when the other team has them.

Mitch Keller wasn't dominant, but he didn't need to be. The Pirates offense, riding that 7.2 runs-per-game heater over their last five, put up five crooked numbers against Gerrit Cole and a depleted Yankees lineup that looked more Triple-A than Bronx Bombers. Cole's 3.93 ERA couldn't save a roster missing its three biggest bats, and Pittsburgh capitalized on every mistake.

The +1.5 spread was always the smart play—60-64% natural coverage when you're catching nearly two runs—but the Bucs didn't mess around with back-door nonsense. They won straight-up, covering by two full runs and validating everything in our original breakdown. The starter ERA gap was manageable, the Pirates were scorching hot, and the Yankees were running on fumes.
