FC Dallas gets another crack at Portland after that frustrating 2-2 draw back in July, and this time the Timbers are showing up in a body bag. Six players out, including projected starter Jose Caicedo, and Portland's road form is already dire—1-3-2 with just 1.5 goals per game away from Providence Park. Dallas, meanwhile, is riding a two-game win streak and boasts significantly sharper underlying numbers: 1.75 expected goals for per game against a Portland side we don't even have clean xG data on. That tells you everything about the gap in quality.

The Timbers' 1.5 xGA defensive mark on the road is leaky enough without being down half a roster. Dallas concedes 1.45 xG per game at home, but they're generating chances and have the depth to handle a quick turnaround—only two days rest won't matter when the opposition is this compromised. Portland's attack has been toothless on the road, and now they're asking backups to navigate Frisco in September heat.

DarkHorse likes FC Dallas straight up at moderate confidence (3/5)—and frankly, that feels conservative. The Timbers are limping into a buzzsaw. Dallas should handle business and collect three points they probably deserved last time these two met.
