Panthers and Lightning Renew Sunshine State Rivalry in September Showcase

The Sunshine State rivalry fires up early as the Panthers visit Tampa Bay in what looks like a September exhibition tuneup—but don't let the calendar fool you. When these two get together, the intensity rarely takes a night off.

Florida's coming off back-to-back Atlantic Division titles and a roster that still features elite two-way depth. Their transition game remains lethal, and if their goaltending holds form from last season's playoff run, they'll be a handful for anyone. The Panthers thrive on speed and forechecking pressure, turning neutral-zone mistakes into odd-man rushes before you can blink.

Tampa Bay, meanwhile, continues defying Father Time. The Lightning's core has won it all before—twice—and they know how to flip the switch when it matters. Their power play remains a weapon, and their defensive structure under Cooper is textbook. The question is whether they've got enough left in the tank for another deep run, or if age finally catches up.

September hockey means lineups in flux and guys fighting for roster spots, so expect some sloppiness. But both clubs have championship pedigree, and neither wants to give an inch—even in a glorified scrimmage. DarkHorse hasn't dropped a pick yet, so we're flying blind on the betting front. Keep your powder dry until we see how the rosters shake out.
