September hockey is back, and the Canadiens make the short trip down the 401 to face the Maple Leafs in what's essentially a glorified scrimmage with NHL sweaters. This is preseason exhibition hockey, folks – rosters stuffed with AHL hopefuls, bubble guys fighting for roster spots, and maybe a veteran or two getting their legs under them before the real games start in October.

Toronto holds home ice advantage, and historically the Leafs treat their preseason home dates at Scotiabank Arena with a bit more urgency than most clubs. Expect a lineup tilted toward roster regulars early, while Montreal will likely rotate through their depth chart and give extended looks to Laval call-ups. The intensity gap usually shows.

Neither team has meaningful form to dissect here – it's September 19th, and nobody's in midseason shape. Special teams will be sloppy, goaltending rotations unpredictable, and the final score might hinge on which third-liner decides he's auditioning for a contract.

If you're betting this, you're chasing preseason action for action's sake. Leafs should have more NHL-caliber bodies on the ice early, which typically translates to a comfortable win in these throwaway affairs. Just don't expect anyone to remember the score by puck drop on opening night.
