A's Offense No-Shows in Houston, Astros Coast 4-0

MLB

The Athletics limped into Houston and promptly face-planted, managing exactly zero runs in a 4-0 shutout loss that made our +1.5 backing look foolish by the fifth inning. So much for J.T. Ginn's supposed pitching advantage—turns out ERA splits mean nothing when your lineup forgets how to hold a bat.

Houston didn't need fireworks. They manufactured just enough offense to cruise, scoring four runs while their pitching staff—allegedly taxed and vulnerable—shut down Oakland's anemic attack completely. The Astros' bullpen concerns? Non-existent when you're facing a lineup this lifeless. Their "3.5 runs over L10" suddenly looked like the Bash Brothers compared to Oakland's donut.

We leaned into the numbers, trusted the ERA gap, and got burned by the oldest truth in baseball: you still have to score. The checklist said value, the spreadsheet said coverage, and the Athletics said "nah, we're good" before rolling over in four hours of forgettable baseball. Hayden Wesneski's 5.16 ERA didn't matter because Oakland never threatened.

Final tally: Astros 4, Athletics 0. Our +1.5? Missed by two full runs. Sometimes the math works, sometimes the bats don't. Tonight was the latter, and it wasn't particularly close.
