A's Pitching Shuts Down Blue Jays in 2-0 Upset, DarkHorse Pick Falls Flat

MLB

So much for that ERA advantage. The Athletics blanked the Blue Jays 2-0 at home, turning DarkHorse's -160 favorite into expensive wallpaper. Brady Basso—the guy we supposedly had a 1.12 ERA edge over—went out and did exactly what Oakland needed, while Toronto's bats turned invisible when it mattered.

The final score tells the story: two runs were enough. Oakland's pitching staff, which we correctly noted has been shaky all season at 5.39 ERA, picked the absolute worst time to find their groove. Meanwhile, Braydon Fisher's supposed superiority? Irrelevant when your lineup can't scratch across a single run.

Toronto came in 7-3 over their last ten, holding opponents to 3.1 runs per game in that stretch. Turns out holding teams to nothing is even better—Oakland just did it to them. The Athletics' 3-2 recent form wasn't just noise; it was a team finding its footing at home, and we walked right into it.

The math said 61.5% win probability justified the juice. The scoreboard said otherwise. Sometimes the starter matchup doesn't matter if the bats stay cold. Credit to Oakland for flipping the script, but this one stings. Onto the next.
