Angels Cover the Spread as Bennett Outduels Johnson in Fenway Slugfest

MLB

The Angels grabbed a 6-4 road win at Fenway, and if you tailed DarkHorse's Angels +1.5, you're cashing tickets and feeling smug. Jake Bennett delivered exactly what we projected—seven innings of three-run ball, keeping Boston's bats just quiet enough while Ryan Johnson continued his season-long struggle to locate anything resembling a strike zone. Johnson lasted just four-plus innings, surrendering five earned, and the Red Sox bullpen couldn't bail him out.

Boston clawed back late with a pair of runs in the eighth, making it interesting, but the Angels' early cushion—built on timely two-out hitting and capitalizing on Johnson's walks—proved insurmountable. The Red Sox offense, still sputtering after yesterday's one-run debacle, managed only four despite Fenway's short porch working overtime.

This one hit every note in our original thesis: Bennett was elite, Johnson was hittable, and the Angels' recent competitiveness (even in losses) showed up when it mattered. Boston's home woes continue, and the +1.5 never looked threatened after the fifth inning. Sometimes the sharp side is also the right side. Bennett's dominance made believers out of doubters, and the spread covered with room to spare. Fade home favorites with ERA-5 starters at your own peril.
