Astros Edge Diamondbacks 3-1 in Pitcher-Friendly Affair at Minute Maid

MLB

The Astros took care of business at Minute Maid Park, grinding out a 3-1 victory over the Diamondbacks in what turned into a classic pitcher's duel. Houston did just enough offensively to support their arms, while Arizona's bats went ice cold when it mattered most.

This one was all about execution and timely hitting. The Astros manufactured three runs through situational baseball—the kind of small-ball grind that wins October games but puts fans to sleep in July. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks managed just a single run despite having opportunities, leaving runners stranded and failing to capitalize on scoring chances.

Houston's pitching staff deserves the real credit here, holding Arizona's lineup in check and never letting them build any momentum. When you're limiting a team to one run, you're doing something right on the mound. The Astros didn't need to light up the scoreboard; they just needed to be better than the alternative, and they were.

For Arizona, this has to sting. You can't win many games scoring one run, no matter how well your pitchers perform. The offense needs to wake up, because moral victories don't count in the standings. Houston moves on with a workmanlike W—nothing flashy, just effective.
