Game Recap

Astros Find Their Bats Just When We Bet Against Them

MLB

Houston scraped together just enough offense to send our Royals +1.5 ticket straight to the shredder with a 4-2 win that covered the full runline. So much for that 3.2 runs-per-game slump we leaned on.

The Astros didn't reinvent the wheel here—they just did what struggling favorites do when you fade them: manufactured enough timely hits to build a cushion Kansas City couldn't erase. Hunter Brown wasn't spectacular, but he didn't have to be. The Royals managed two runs against a Houston staff that's been leaky lately, but couldn't find that third run to push us into the window. Michael Wacha's modest ERA edge meant nothing when his lineup went quiet at the worst possible moments.

We banked on Houston's recent offensive drought continuing and the matchup staying tight enough for the runline to hold. Instead, the Astros picked the exact wrong night to remember how to score, and that two-run margin held firm. The logic was sound—take the value on a coin-flip game with runline insurance—but baseball doesn't care about your spreadsheet when a team decides to wake up. Tough break, but that's the game. We'll be back.
