Athletics Steal One in Seattle Behind Seven-Run Outburst, Cover +1.5 With Room to Spare

MLB

The Athletics walked into T-Mobile Park and punched Seattle square in the mouth, winning outright 7-4 and making our +1.5 line look downright conservative. We told you the Mariners' bullpen was held together with duct tape and prayer—turns out we were being generous.

Jack Perkins wasn't exactly Cy Young out there, but he didn't have to be. Oakland's bats did the heavy lifting, piling up seven runs against Kade Anderson and Seattle's walking wounded relief corps. The Mariners' pitching staff, missing Brash, Speier, and Evans, hemorrhaged runs exactly when it mattered. Anderson's 4.50 ERA looked quaint compared to what the bullpen coughed up in the middle innings.

Seattle managed four runs—respectable on paper, meaningless in practice. Their recent form showed cracks (6.5 runs allowed per game over their last ten), and fatigue from six games in seven days finally caught up. Oakland didn't just cover; they won straight up as road dogs, validating everything we said about undervaluing that cushion.

The market gave Seattle's -1.5 a 46.8% fair shot. We saw a tired team with no bullpen depth facing a competent Oakland lineup that doesn't quit. Final score: Athletics 7, Mariners 4. Our pick: cash money. Sometimes the math just works.
