Avalanche Faceplant: Leafs Light Up Ball Arena 6-3, Bury Our -200 Chalk
Well, that was embarrassing. The Avalanche, our confident -200 home favorite, got absolutely torched 6-3 by a supposedly depleted Maple Leafs squad that was meant to be running on fumes without John Tavares. So much for that 7.0 goals-per-game home dominance—Toronto made Ball Arena look like a shooting gallery.
The Leafs' 2.8 goals-per-game average? Cute stat. They more than doubled it in one night, exposing Colorado's defense as Swiss cheese despite the Avs' pretty early-season record. Toronto came in 0-1 on the road and left 1-1, treating our vaunted home-ice advantage like a suggestion rather than a fortress. The three-goal margin wasn't a fluke—the Leafs controlled this game, injury concerns be damned.
Colorado's offensive firepower, the cornerstone of our handicap, showed up just enough to avoid total humiliation but never threatened a comeback. When you're laying -200, you're supposed to impose your will. Instead, the Avalanche looked sluggish, outworked, and thoroughly outclassed by a team we pegged as road-weary and offensively challenged.
Chalk this one up as a painful miss. Sometimes the "depleted" team has more fight than the favorite has answers. Toronto proved it emphatically.
