Avalanche Roll Past Penguins 5-2 as Blackwood Bounces Back, DarkHorse Whiffs on Goalie Bet
Well, that was ugly. The Avalanche dismantled Pittsburgh 5-2 at Ball Arena, and our Penguins +180 ticket went straight to the shredder. We leaned hard on Mackenzie Blackwood's shaky .879 save percentage and Arturs Silovs' supposedly superior form, but hockey has a cruel sense of humor—Blackwood picked tonight to remember he's an NHL goalie while Silovs got lit up.
Colorado jumped ahead early and never looked back, building a comfortable lead that made the final score feel closer than the game actually was. The Avs' offense clicked in all the right places, exposing Pittsburgh's defensive lapses and making Silovs' night miserable. That extra day of rest we touted? Didn't matter. Sidney Crosby anchoring the lineup? Not enough firepower when your goalie can't steal you a period.
Blackwood flipped the script on his recent struggles, standing tall when Colorado needed saves and giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about. Meanwhile, our "value play" at +180 proved to be fool's gold. Colorado's mediocre 2-2 home record improved to 3-2, and that one-game losing streak is ancient history. Sometimes the numbers lie, and tonight they lied beautifully. Chalk it up as a miss and move on.
