Blue Jays Cash Gausman's Edge as Cardinals Limp to 1-5 Stretch

MLB

The Blue Jays took care of business at home, dispatching the reeling Cardinals 5-1 to hand DarkHorse backers a clean winner on Toronto -136. Kevin Gausman delivered exactly the kind of workmanlike outing the pick anticipated, keeping St. Louis' punchless lineup in check while his offense did just enough to pull away. The Cardinals, now a dismal 1-5 in their last six, managed a single run against a Blue Jays staff that's finding its groove at the right time.

Toronto's two-game win streak is now three, and the momentum gap between these clubs couldn't be more stark. St. Louis looked every bit the team that's gone 2-8 in its last ten—lifeless at the plate, unable to manufacture anything resembling sustained pressure. Meanwhile, the Jays controlled the game from the middle innings on, padding the lead and never letting the Cardinals sniff a comeback.

Gausman wasn't spectacular, but he didn't need to be. The 4.51 ERA guy outclassed Quinn Mathews and a Cardinals rotation that's been league-average at best. Home field, momentum, and a functional starter against a team in freefall—sometimes the math is that simple. The Stable cashes, and we move on to the next one.
