Blues Edge Red Wings 5-4 in Detroit Thriller
The Blues escaped Little Caesars Arena with a 5-4 victory over the Red Wings in a back-and-forth affair that had more lead changes than a figure skating competition. St. Louis managed to find the winner late, but not before Detroit made them sweat out every second of the third period.
This one had playoff intensity written all over it, even if neither team is exactly booking postseason tickets just yet. The Blues' offense showed up when it mattered, potting five goals against a Red Wings squad that's been tighter defensively at home this season. Detroit's four-goal output proves they can hang offensively, but moral victories don't earn points in the standings.
St. Louis did just enough to grab the two points, though their defensive structure looked shakier than a house of cards in a wind tunnel. Giving up four goals to a Detroit team that's been inconsistent scoring-wise should raise some eyebrows in the Blues' locker room.
The Red Wings pushed hard but ultimately came up short in a game they desperately needed. Close losses are becoming a frustrating pattern in Hockeytown, and at some point, you've got to find ways to steal these tight ones at home. The Blues won't care about style points—they'll take the W and run.
