Braves Bash Through Elite Arms as UNDER Craters in 9-Run Slugfest

MLB

So much for that elite-elite pitching matchup. The Braves dismantled the Mets 6-3 at Truist Park, turning DarkHorse's confident UNDER 8.5 into confetti with nine total runs that sailed past the number by half a run. Tyler Mahle's pristine 0.00 ERA? Didn't survive Atlanta's lineup. Zac Thornton's stingy 2.52 mark? The Mets found enough cracks to push three across. That projected 6.8-run total based on a combined 1.26 starter ERA looked adorable on paper—reality had other plans.

The logic wasn't crazy: back-to-back fatigue, depleted Mets lineup missing Soto and Vientos, two arms dealing. But baseball doesn't care about your spreadsheet when bats get hot. Atlanta's offense woke up and punished every mistake, while New York's skeleton crew actually showed some pulse despite the injuries. The 1.7-run edge we thought we had? Evaporated by the fifth inning.

Truist Park stayed neutral as advertised, but the arms weren't elite enough when it mattered. The Braves take the series win, the Mets limp back to New York, and we're left holding a losing ticket. Sometimes the numbers lie. Tonight they absolutely did. Chalk it up, move forward—that's the game.
