Brewers Get Steamrolled at Wrigley as Cubs Hang 17 in Blowout Loss

MLB

Well, that escalated quickly. The Brewers limped into Wrigley and got absolutely demolished 17-3, turning our -105 pick into a smoldering crater of regret. So much for Kyle Harrison's "meaningful edge" and Milwaukee's "superior team pitching metrics" — the Cubs treated both like a batting practice piñata.

Chicago put up a 14-run cushion that made this one a laugher by the middle innings, exposing every flaw in a Brewers squad that supposedly had the pitching advantage. Harrison's strikeout upside? Irrelevant when you're getting shelled. That vaunted 3.37 team ERA? Add a few points after this disaster. The 4-2 road form we leaned on evaporated in a single afternoon of defensive incompetence and meatball offerings.

Meanwhile, the Cubs — who we flagged as struggling at 1-4 and battling "back-to-back fatigue" — looked like the 1927 Yankees. Seventeen runs will cure any fatigue narrative real quick. Clay Holmes and company carved up Milwaukee's lineup while their own bats feasted, making our season-series edge (4-2) feel like ancient history.

Bottom line: we got this one catastrophically wrong. The Brewers didn't just lose, they got boat-raced. Chalk it up, learn from it, and move on. That's baseball, Suzyn.
