Game Recap
Canadiens Steal One in Winnipeg, Edge Jets 2-1 in Tight Defensive Battle
The Canadiens walked into Canada Life Centre and did exactly what road underdogs dream of: shut things down, capitalize on their chances, and escape with two points. Montreal's 2-1 victory over Winnipeg was the kind of suffocating, low-event affair that makes coaches smile and highlight-reel junkies reach for the remote.
Neither team found much oxygen in this one. The Jets controlled stretches of play but couldn't solve whatever wall Montreal erected in front of their net. When you're only putting one past the goalie at home, that's a problem—especially when the opposition makes their limited opportunities count. The Canadiens buried two and clamped down from there, forcing Winnipeg into the kind of frustrated, perimeter game that produces nothing but shot-clock padding.
Credit to Montreal for playing a road game the right way: defend first, counter when it's there, don't get cute. Winnipeg will lament the missed chances, but sometimes the puck just doesn't cooperate. The Jets are good enough that one home stumble won't derail anything, but this was a winnable game that slipped away.
DarkHorse didn't weigh in on this one, so no victory lap or mea culpa required. Just a gritty Canadiens road win and a frustrated Jets squad left wondering what happened.
