Capitals Edge Canadiens 5-4 as Lindgren Backstops DarkHorse Winner
The Capitals squeaked past Montreal 5-4 at Capital One Arena, and DarkHorse's Capitals -130 pick cashed despite some late-game theatrics that had bettors sweating. Charlie Lindgren was supposed to be the difference-maker here, and while he wasn't perfect, he did enough to validate the goaltending mismatch we hammered all week. Jakub Dobes and his .856 save percentage walked into a back-to-back buzzsaw and got lit up exactly as expected.
Washington jumped ahead early and built enough cushion to withstand Montreal's push, though the Habs made it interesting down the stretch. The Capitals' home ice advantage showed up when it mattered—they're now 3-1 at home and proving they can score in bunches on friendly ice. Montreal's goaltending remains catastrophic, just as advertised. You can't win NHL games when your netminder is leaking goals like a rusty bucket, and Dobes gave the Caps plenty of opportunities to pad the lead.
This one hit because the fundamentals were sound: elite goaltending versus a sieve, both teams tired, home team with scoring punch. Sometimes handicapping is this simple. Lindgren held serve, Washington capitalized, and we're cashing tickets. Chalk up another win for trusting the crease.
