Cardinals Drop Heartbreaker in Cincinnati Despite Pallante's Solid Outing

MLB

The Cardinals fell 6-5 in Cincinnati, squandering a quality start from Andre Pallante and handing DarkHorse bettors a painful miss on the -125 favorite. So much for that 1.69 ERA advantage mattering when your bullpen decides to play hot potato in the late innings.

Pallante did his job, holding the Reds in check through six innings and validating every word of our pre-game analysis. The Cardinals' offense showed up too, scratching across five runs against Rhett Lowder and the Cincinnati pen. Everything was tracking exactly as projected—superior starter, better recent form, season series dominance. Then the wheels came off.

St. Louis couldn't hold the lead when it mattered most, allowing the Reds to claw back and ultimately walk it off with a sixth run. That 7-3 recent record? Didn't show up in crunch time. The 5-3 season series edge? Meaningless when you can't close.

This one stings because the handicap was sound—Pallante outpitched the returning Lowder, and the Cardinals controlled most of this game. But baseball doesn't award style points for "almost." The Reds found a way to win at home, and our -125 ticket became expensive wallpaper. Sometimes the better team loses, and sometimes that better team costs you money doing it.
