Cardinals Fall Short in Cincinnati, Reds Edge 5-4 Thriller

MLB

The Reds squeaked past the Cardinals 5-4 in a nail-biter at Great American Ball Park, and honestly, St. Louis had every chance to steal this one but couldn't find the clutch hit when it mattered. Cincinnati's offense did just enough early to build a cushion, then held on for dear life as the Cardinals mounted a late charge that fell agonizingly short.

This game had all the hallmarks of a classic NL Central slugfest—both bullpens got worked, both lineups had their moments, and it came down to who could execute in the final frames. The Reds managed to protect that one-run lead when it counted, while the Cardinals stranded runners at the worst possible times. You hate to see it if you're wearing red birds on your chest.

St. Louis showed some fight, clawing back from what could've been a blowout, but moral victories don't count in the standings. The Reds did what good home teams do—they found a way to win ugly. For Cardinals fans, this one stings because it was right there for the taking.

DarkHorse didn't publish a pick on this matchup, so we're all just spectators watching another one-run heartbreaker in Cincinnati. Sometimes the baseball gods just aren't with you.
