Cardinals Fall Short in San Francisco, Giants Edge Thriller 5-4

MLB

The Giants squeaked past the Cardinals 5-4 in a nail-biter at Oracle Park, and let's be honest—this one came down to who wanted it more in the final frames. San Francisco found a way to push across the deciding run when it mattered, leaving St. Louis kicking themselves over missed opportunities.

The Cardinals showed up swinging early, building momentum that looked like it might carry them through nine innings. But baseball's a cruel mistress, and momentum means nothing if you can't slam the door. The Giants chipped away, manufacturing runs the old-fashioned way—timely hitting, smart baserunning, and capitalizing when the Cardinals' defense blinked.

St. Louis had their chances late to reclaim control, but stranded runners tell the story of this loss. You can't leave guys on base in a one-run game and expect to fly home happy. The Giants' pitching staff bent but never broke when it counted, and that's the difference between a W and an L in tight contests like this.

Credit to San Francisco for grinding it out at home. As for the Cardinals? They'll need to figure out how to finish games if they want to stay relevant in this division race. Close doesn't cut it in October baseball—or May, for that matter.
