Cardinals Stroll Into SoFi, Embarrass Chargers Outright in 26-14 Stunner

NFL

The Chargers were supposed to handle business at home. Instead, they got pantsed by a Cardinals squad we backed at +9.5—and Arizona didn't just cover, they won straight-up, 26-14. Rookie Carson Beck, making his first NFL start, wasn't perfect but he was poised enough to exploit a Chargers defense that looked sluggish and unprepared. LA's offense, meanwhile, confirmed every red flag we threw up: anemic, predictable, and incapable of capitalizing when it mattered. The Chargers managed just 14 points against a Cardinals defense that surrendered nearly 29 per game last season, which tells you everything about their offensive impotence.

Our thesis was simple: LA doesn't have the firepower to blow anyone out, and Week 1 rust would keep this tight. We got both, plus a Cardinals squad that played with more juice than anyone expected. Beck didn't need to be a hero—he just had to not lose it, and Arizona's defense and ground game did the rest. The Chargers looked every bit the plodding, limited unit we pegged them as, and now they're 0-1 with questions piling up. Meanwhile, we're cashing tickets and feeling pretty damn good about fading the hype. DarkHorse called it: Cardinals +9.5 was a gift, and it hit with room to spare.
