Cardinals Survive Coors Chaos, Cash -130 Tickets in Slugfest

MLB

The Cardinals outlasted the Rockies 10-8 in a Coors Field shootout that had DarkHorse bettors sweating bullets but ultimately cashing their -130 tickets. So much for that Kyle Leahy pitching advantage we touted—turns out nobody's ERA survives Denver's thin air unscathed.

St. Louis jumped ahead early and needed every run they could manufacture, because this one turned into exactly the kind of offensive carnival Coors is famous for. The Cardinals' bats did the heavy lifting their pitching staff couldn't, piling up double-digit runs while the bullpen white-knuckled its way through Colorado's late rally. That 4.29 team ERA we loved? Looked more like batting practice by the seventh inning.

Credit where it's due: the Cardinals' offense showed up when Leahy's "substantial edge" evaporated into the Rocky Mountain atmosphere. The two-run margin feels generous considering how dicey this got down the stretch, with Colorado clawing within striking distance multiple times.

The pick hit, but let's be honest—this wasn't the pitching clinic we sold you. Sometimes you win pretty, sometimes you win ugly, and sometimes you just survive Coors Field with your bankroll intact. The Cardinals did exactly enough, the math worked out, and we'll take the W without pretending it was comfortable.
