Cardinals Survive Wild Shootout in Cincinnati, Cash ML Ticket by a Run

MLB

The Cardinals turned what should've been a comfortable pitching advantage into a white-knuckle thriller, escaping Great American Ball Park with a 10-9 victory that barely salvaged our ML ticket. Michael McGreevy's "meaningful pitching advantage" evaporated faster than cheap beer in July—both starters got shelled in what became a slugfest nobody saw coming.

St. Louis jumped ahead early and needed every single run, building enough cushion to withstand a furious Reds rally that made the ninth inning far more interesting than anyone wearing Birds on the Bat wanted. That hot Cardinals offense we highlighted showed up as advertised, posting double-digit runs and proving the 5.0 R/G trend wasn't a mirage. Meanwhile, Cincinnati's supposedly anemic lineup—3.13 R/G over their last 15—picked the worst possible night to wake up, nearly erasing what looked like a comfortable lead.

The final score makes this look closer than it felt for eight innings, but a win's a win and a hit's a hit. The Cardinals' 7-3 season series dominance held up when it mattered most, even if McGreevy didn't deliver the pitching clinic we expected. Sometimes you win ugly. Sometimes you just survive. Tonight, St. Louis did both—and The Stable cashes either way.
