Game Recap
Cavaliers Dismantle 76ers 119-95, Our -2.5 Pick Misses
Cleveland 119, Philadelphia 95. Not close, and not even a little bit. The 76ers were laid -2.5, and they didn't just fail to cover. They lost by 24. Our pick missed, and we're owning it.
The logic going in was sound on paper. Both teams had two days of rest since their last game on 11/04, so fatigue wasn't the story. We leaned on form and defense: Philadelphia at 8-1 and allowing 105.22 per game, against a Cleveland defense giving up 117.12. Philly also won the earlier meeting 114-106, which made the number look fair to us. The market had Philadelphia around 50.9%, so we treated this as a small edge and sized it as a minimum play. That's the only reason this miss stings less than it could.
Where it went sideways matters more. Cleveland scored 119 against a defense we had flagged as the weaker side of this matchup, which suggests the 117.12 allowed number was a warning we only partly heeded. Philadelphia's 95 never threatened to keep this within the number. A 24-point loss is not a bad bounce or one hot shooter. It is a sign the sample we leaned on was thinner than we admitted.
We're not going to overcorrect after one game. An 8-9 game sample is still small, and one blowout doesn't erase a rating. But the lesson is clear: small edges need small stakes, and we did that part right. Next time, we'll weight the defensive numbers more carefully and keep the sizing discipline. Onward.
