Charlotte Gets Smoked in Columbus Despite Giving DarkHorse Bettors the Over
Columbus put on a clinic at Lower.com Field, dispatching Charlotte 3-1 and delivering a comfortable winner for anyone who rode DarkHorse's over 3.5 ticket. The Crew's attack finally woke up from its season-long xG underperformance slump, punching in three goals and proving that regression works both ways—sometimes it just takes the right opponent to break through.
Charlotte arrived with all that underlying attacking quality we've been tracking—1.669 xGF per game, ten-and-a-half goals above their expected total on the year—but got thoroughly outclassed on the road. They managed one consolation strike, which at least kept things interesting and pushed the total to four. Columbus's defensive holes were on full display early in the campaign (1.64 GA/game), but they tightened up enough at home to control this one while still allowing Charlotte's attack to contribute to the scoreline.
The over 3.5 cashed with room to spare, validating the thesis that these two sides had the offensive firepower and defensive leakiness to light up the scoreboard. Columbus needed this statement win, Charlotte got exposed away from home, and DarkHorse subscribers walked away with another winning slip. Sometimes the math just works.
