Chicago Fire Steal Point in Seattle, But DarkHorse Pick Falls Short

MLS

The Chicago Fire salvaged a 2-2 draw at Lumen Field on Saturday, but DarkHorse's moneyline pick went down in flames. We backed Chicago outright based on their superior metrics and Seattle's injury apocalypse, and while the Fire showed flashes of that quality edge, they couldn't close the deal against a Sounders side that had no business hanging with them.

Chicago's underlying numbers suggested they'd dominate a Seattle squad missing half their starting XI, and for stretches they did exactly that. The Fire's attack—averaging nearly two goals per game coming in—found the net twice and created enough chances to justify our faith in their firepower. But Seattle's makeshift lineup somehow scraped together two goals of their own, exposing Chicago's inability to put away a wounded opponent.

This one stings because the thesis was sound. Seattle entered winless in their last five, decimated by injuries, leaking goals at an alarming rate. The Fire had every advantage on paper and still let two points slip through their fingers on the road. A draw might feel respectable in Seattle, but when you're backing the better team against a MASH unit, you need three points. Chicago proved they belonged, but belonging doesn't cash tickets. The pick missed because the Fire lacked killer instinct when it mattered most.
