Diamondbacks Edge Astros 4-3 as Pfaadt Outduels Pecko, DarkHorse Cashes ML Ticket

MLB

The Diamondbacks squeaked past Houston 4-3 at Minute Maid Park, and DarkHorse's ML pick hit exactly as advertised. Brandon Pfaadt showed up ready to work, justifying every bit of that 3.49 ERA while Ethan Pecko reminded everyone why his 6.23 ERA and 1.54 WHIP are legitimate red flags, not small-sample noise. Arizona built enough cushion early to withstand the inevitable Astros push, because even when Houston's bats are quiet, Yordan Alvarez and company don't stay silent forever.

The pitching gap was the story, just as projected. Pfaadt carved through a dangerous Houston lineup that came in averaging over four runs per game, limiting the damage when it mattered most. Pecko, predictably hittable, gave Arizona the openings they needed. The Diamondbacks' offense—competitive but not elite—did just enough against a pitcher they should feast on, and Carroll's recent form (.81 OPS) likely played a role in keeping the pressure on.

Houston made it interesting late, because that's what good teams do at home, but 4-3 holds. DarkHorse nailed the value angle, the pitching mismatch, and the result. Sometimes it really is that simple: back the better arm, collect the plus-money, move on to the next one.
