Flames Escape San Jose With Narrow 2-1 Victory in Defensive Slog
The Calgary Flames squeaked out a 2-1 road win over the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night, though nobody's confusing this one with a playoff preview. This was defensive hockey at its grindiest—or maybe just two offenses that couldn't find the net with a GPS and a prayer.
Calgary did just enough to collect two points in a building where wins should come easy these days. The Sharks are rebuilding, and it showed. Still, give San Jose credit for keeping it tight through sixty minutes. They're scrappy if nothing else, and they made the Flames work for every inch of ice.
The difference? Calgary found the back of the net twice. San Jose managed once. That's your ball game.
Neither team lit the lamp with any consistency, and special teams were largely a non-factor. If you tuned in hoping for fireworks, you got sparklers at best. But road wins count the same whether you win 6-5 or 2-1, and the Flames will gladly bank this one as they continue their push in a tight Pacific Division.
DarkHorse didn't publish a pick here, which in hindsight might've been the smartest play of the night. Hard to get excited about a game this low-event.
