Flames Finally Break Through, DarkHorse Cashes Plus-Money in Anaheim
The winless streak is over. Calgary finally found the win column with a 4-2 road victory over the injury-riddled Ducks, and if you tailed DarkHorse's +170 call, you're counting your money this morning. This was textbook value hunting—the market overreacted to Calgary's 0-5 start, and Anaheim's depleted roster couldn't capitalize on home ice.
The Flames did exactly what the underlying metrics promised: they outshot Anaheim and controlled possession for long stretches. Lukas Dostal's shaky .884 save percentage coming in? Still shaky. Calgary peppered him early and often, building a cushion before the Ducks mounted any real pushback. Anaheim's injury woes—Terry on IR, Gauthier and Poehling questionable—showed up in their depth. They couldn't generate sustained pressure without their top talent.
Sure, Devin Cooley wasn't spectacular between the pipes, but he didn't need to be. Calgary's shot volume advantage (28.0 per game vs. 23.2) translated into quality looks, and at nearly 3-to-1 odds, we didn't need perfection—just competence. The Ducks grabbed two late goals to make it respectable, but this one was never really in doubt after the second period.
Regression finds everyone eventually. Calgary was overdue, the price was absurd, and DarkHorse called it clean. Onto the next.
