Flames Torch Leafs 5-2 in Lopsided Scotiabank Saddledome Beatdown
The Calgary Flames put on a clinic Saturday night, dismantling the visiting Maple Leafs 5-2 in a game that was never really close. Toronto came to the Saddledome looking to steal two points and instead got thoroughly outworked in all three zones.
Calgary jumped out early and never looked back, building a cushion that made the Leafs' late push feel like window dressing. The Flames' offense clicked on all cylinders while Toronto's vaunted attack sputtered badly, managing just two goals against a Calgary squad that's been vulnerable at times this season. That's simply not going to cut it when you're supposed to be a Cup contender.
The Leafs' defensive lapses were glaring, and their goaltending couldn't bail them out. Meanwhile, Calgary's netminder had a relatively comfortable evening, facing minimal high-danger chances and turning aside everything that mattered. The Flames controlled pace, won the special teams battle, and skated harder—three things that usually spell doom for the opposition.
Toronto heads home licking its wounds after getting thoroughly outclassed. Calgary, meanwhile, can bank two points and feel good about a complete team effort. No DarkHorse pick on this one, but anyone backing the home underdog ate well tonight.
