Giants Escape Busch Stadium with Nail-Biter, 6-5 Over Cardinals

MLB

The Giants scratched out a one-run victory in St. Louis, edging the Cardinals 6-5 in a game that came down to the wire at Busch Stadium. San Francisco built enough cushion early to withstand a late Cardinals push, holding on for the road win in what turned into a classic back-and-forth affair.

Both offenses came to play, combining for 11 runs and keeping the bullpens busy down the stretch. The Giants capitalized when it mattered most, manufacturing just enough offense to stay one step ahead while their relievers navigated some dicey late innings. St. Louis mounted a spirited comeback attempt but ultimately left the tying run stranded, coming up just short in front of the home crowd.

This one had playoff-level intensity despite the regular season setting—neither team giving an inch, both bullpens getting tested, and the outcome hanging in the balance until the final out. The Giants proved they can win ugly on the road, always a valuable skill in a long season. Meanwhile, the Cardinals have to be kicking themselves for letting a winnable game slip away at home.

DarkHorse stayed on the sidelines for this matchup, which probably wasn't a bad call given how tight it played out. Sometimes the sharpest move is no move at all.
