Giants Offense Goes Silent in St. Louis, Cardinals Edge It 2-1

MLB

The Giants limped into Busch Stadium and managed all of one measly run in a 2-1 loss to the Cardinals, continuing their frustrating stretch of anemic offense. San Francisco's bats might as well have stayed on the team bus—one run isn't going to cut it against anybody, let alone a Cardinals squad that's been scrapping for every win lately.

St. Louis didn't exactly light up the scoreboard either, but they did just enough to send the Giants packing. Two runs proved to be the magic number, and credit where it's due: the Cardinals' pitching staff kept San Francisco's lineup in check all night long. When you're only plating one run, you're basically begging to lose, and that's exactly what happened here.

The Giants had their chances—they always do—but couldn't capitalize when it mattered. Meanwhile, the Cardinals played small ball, manufactured just enough offense, and rode their arms to a gritty home victory. Not pretty, not flashy, but a W is a W in the standings.

San Francisco needs to figure out how to string together some hits before this offensive drought turns into a full-blown crisis. The Cardinals? They'll take the two points and move on. Sometimes baseball is just that simple.
