Parker Messick's sparkling 2.55 ERA looked great on paper—apparently Kansas City didn't get the scouting report. Meanwhile, Daniel Lynch IV, the guy we were supposed to feast on with his pedestrian 4.13 ERA and underwhelming strikeout rate, did just enough to keep Cleveland's bats quiet when it mattered.

The Guardians managed only two runs despite carrying all that momentum and a fresh 11-5 beatdown from the day before. That vaunted 3.77 team ERA? Irrelevant when you can't scratch across three runs. The 1.58 ERA advantage between starters evaporated in the reality of nine innings, and Cleveland's supposed "true win probability" got a harsh lesson in variance.
