Heat Torch Nets 144-128 as Preseason Defense Takes a Holiday
The Miami Heat torched Brooklyn 144-128 in a preseason shootout that made a mockery of defensive effort and turned the under 232.5 into roadkill. DarkHorse's pick crashed spectacularly as both teams combined for 272 points—nearly 40 over the number—in what looked more like an All-Star Game scrimmage than October basketball.
So much for disjointed preseason offense. The Heat caught fire from the opening tip, piling up 144 points with the kind of efficiency you'd expect from a team in midseason form, not one experimenting with rotations. Brooklyn wasn't interested in playing defense either, matching Miami's pace in a track meet that never slowed down. When your preseason total sails past 270, somebody forgot to tell these rosters they're supposed to be pacing themselves.
The under was predicated on load management, experimental lineups, and typical preseason sloppiness suppressing scoring. Instead, we got two teams treating this like a layup line at an open gym. Whether Miami's projected starters were resting or not became irrelevant when their replacements decided to light up the scoreboard like it was the Fourth of July.
Preseason totals are supposed to be safe havens. This one turned into a bonfire, and the under never stood a chance once both teams decided defense was optional.
