Houston Steals One in Seattle, Under Bettors Cash Easy
The Dynamo walked into Lumen Field and did exactly what nobody expected: they won. Houston's 1-0 road victory over Seattle was the kind of suffocating, low-event slog that made our under 2.75 look brilliant from the opening whistle.
We called Houston's offense fraudulent—a team riding 12.8 goals above their expected output—and they proved it by generating almost nothing in open play. But sometimes you don't need pretty chances when you can nick one goal and suffocate the life out of a match. Seattle's attack, which we noted creates more than their raw scoring suggests, looked toothless when it mattered. Both sides combined for exactly one finish, and that was plenty.
This wasn't entertainment. This was two teams grinding through mud, exactly as their underlying metrics predicted. Houston's winless streak ends, but let's not pretend they've suddenly figured out how to attack—they just needed Seattle to be equally inept going forward. The under 2.75 cashed with room to spare in a match that finished with one goal and zero drama.
Sometimes regression to the mean looks ugly. Sometimes it looks like this: a 1-0 result where both teams proved they're exactly as limited as the numbers said they were.
