Hurricanes Flip the Script, Send Capitals Packing 4-2
So much for recent history. The Hurricanes exacted revenge for that October 2nd shellacking, dispatching the Capitals 4-2 at home and making DarkHorse's +135 road dog pick look foolish in the process. Washington came in riding confidence from that 5-2 beatdown three weeks ago, but Carolina wasn't interested in a repeat performance.
The goaltending edge we banked on? Evaporated. Whatever Brandon Bussi's early-season struggles were, he clearly sorted them out, while Logan Thompson couldn't replicate his previous dominance between the pipes. The Hurricanes' offense found its groove at home after those shaky splits, putting up four goals and never letting Washington establish the control they'd enjoyed in the first meeting.
Carolina's 1-2 home record suddenly looks like a small sample size problem rather than a trend. They played with purpose, executed when it mattered, and turned the tables on a Capitals squad that probably thought they had this matchup figured out. Washington managed just two goals despite averaging three per game on the road—not nearly enough against a Hurricanes team that remembered getting embarrassed.
The pick missed because hockey's funny that way. Past results don't guarantee future performance, and Carolina proved they're a different animal when properly motivated. Lesson learned—maybe.
