Jets Blank Steelers in Preseason Snoozefest as Under Cruises Home

NFL

The Jets walked into Pittsburgh and delivered a 17-0 shutout that felt exactly as thrilling as watching paint dry in a humidity chamber. This was preseason football at its most preseason—vanilla playcalling, third-stringers getting their auditions, and offensive coordinators treating the playbook like a state secret.

DarkHorse nailed the under 37.5, and frankly, this one was never in doubt. We projected a low-scoring affair built on backup quarterbacks and conservative game plans, and both teams delivered precisely that brand of tedium. The Jets managed 17 points, which in this context might as well be a touchdown parade, while Pittsburgh's offense produced absolutely nothing. Zero points. Zilch. The Steelers' backup quarterbacks—Will Howard and Drew Allar—looked exactly like guys who won't sniff meaningful snaps this season.

New York's offense wasn't exactly lighting up the scoreboard either, but 17 was more than enough against a Pittsburgh squad clearly more interested in evaluating roster bubble guys than, you know, actually scoring. The combined 17 points landed comfortably under a total that assumed both teams might occasionally remember how to move the ball.

Preseason Week 3 remains the graveyard of the over. Starters resting, schemes locked away, execution optional. DarkHorse called it, the under cashed easy, and anyone who stayed awake for all four quarters deserves hazard pay.
