Kirby Crumbles, DarkHorse Eats Crow in Arlington

MLB

So much for that 0.56 ERA advantage. George Kirby got shelled for seven runs as the Rangers dismantled Seattle 7-3 at Globe Life Field, turning our -145 Mariners pick into expensive confetti. Kumar Rocker, the guy we were supposed to fade based on his 4.13 ERA, outdueled the "consistent" Kirby by a country mile. Texas jumped on Seattle early and never looked back, methodically building a lead that made the final three innings feel like a formality.

The pitching differential we hung our hat on? Complete mirage. Kirby's supposed reliability vanished the moment Texas hitters started teeing off, and that 3.65 team ERA we touted meant nothing when it mattered. The Rangers improved to 3-1 in the season series, and maybe we should've weighted that home-field dominance more heavily instead of getting cute with ERA splits. Texas proved they own Seattle in Arlington, and no amount of WHIP analysis changes that reality.

The lesson here is brutal but clear: sometimes the team that just beats you keeps beating you, regardless of what the spreadsheet says. The Rangers cashed as home dogs, bettors who trusted the pattern over the projections collected, and we're left explaining why "true win probability" didn't show up. Tough night at the office.
