Kraken Flip the Script on Overpriced Caps, Cash at +180
The Kraken waltzed into Capital One Arena and reminded everyone why betting short-sample chalk is a sucker's game. Seattle took this one 5-3, turning our +180 ticket into confetti and proving that early-season market overreactions are real money.
Washington opened as -220 favorites riding a mini win streak and Logan Thompson's shiny .929 save percentage, but three games don't make a Vezina campaign. Joey Daccord and the Kraken offense had other plans. Seattle's road form—4.33 goals per game through three away tilts—wasn't a fluke. They came out firing, built a lead, and never let the Capitals' power play truly threaten despite the home crowd's best efforts.
The Caps clawed back to 3-2 at one point, but Seattle's depth took over down the stretch. Two third-period tallies sealed it, and suddenly Thompson's save percentage looks a lot more mortal. Dubois' day-to-day absence didn't help Washington's depth chart, either.
This is exactly why we hammer value over reputation in October. The market priced Washington like a contender based on four games of noise. The Kraken were the better road team with the better price, and they proved it on the scoreboard. Easy money when the math and the matchup align. Hit, cashed, moving on.
