LAFC Coughs Up Road Lead, Settles for Draw in San Jose Stalemate

MLS

Well, that defensive edge we leaned on? Showed up for exactly one half. LAFC grabbed a 2-0 lead and promptly forgot how to close, allowing San Jose to claw back for a 2-2 draw at PayPal Park—and our LAFC ML pick dies a slow, frustrating death in the process.

The script started perfectly. LAFC's supposed structural defensive superiority looked real early, and they converted their chances to build that two-goal cushion. Then came the collapse. San Jose—a side we correctly flagged as offensively anemic at 1.0 goals per game over their last ten—suddenly remembered how to finish, erasing the deficit and salvaging a point they had no business earning based on season-long form.

This one stings because the underlying thesis wasn't wrong. LAFC's 1.04 goals-against per game should have been enough to see this out. Instead, they gift-wrapped two goals to a Quakes attack that's been toothless for weeks. The April 4-1 outlier we dismissed? Maybe San Jose just has LAFC's number this year, logic be damned.

Credit where it's due: San Jose showed grit. But LAFC's inability to protect a two-goal lead on the road is inexcusable, and it cost us a winner. Onto the next.
