Game Recap
Lightning Bounce Back, Sink DarkHorse Pick 3-1
So much for momentum and goaltending edges. The Lightning shook off their opening-night disaster with a methodical 3-1 victory over Washington, sending our Capitals +140 ticket straight to the shredder. Tampa didn't need fireworks—just disciplined hockey and enough finish to make Charlie Lindgren's night miserable.
The Capitals came in riding high after that 5-2 road win, and we loved the underdog price against a Lightning squad that looked lost in their opener. The logic was sound: back-to-back or not, Washington had the hot hand and the better netminder. Except nobody told Tampa they were supposed to roll over at home. The Lightning controlled possession, cashed their chances, and made Lindgren face enough rubber to crack that confidence we were banking on.
Washington managed just one goal—a far cry from the five-spot they hung two nights prior—and suddenly that "strong early-season form" looks more like fool's gold. Tampa's goaltending, the supposed weak link, was plenty good enough when it mattered. The market wasn't overweighting home ice; it was correctly pricing a team desperate to avoid an 0-2 start. We got caught chasing recency bias, and the Lightning made us pay. Tough miss, but that's October hockey—nothing's baked yet.
