Lightning Goalie Edge Evaporates in 5-1 Madison Square Garden Beatdown
So much for the goaltending advantage. We backed Tampa Bay at -1.5 on the premise that Dennis Hildeby would lock down the crease while Joonas Korpisalo's shaky .894 save percentage would crack under pressure. Instead, the Rangers hung five goals on the Lightning and turned our "hot goalie" narrative into confetti at MSG.
The final score—5-1 Rangers—wasn't even close. New York, supposedly fatigued from a back-to-back after yesterday's 3-0 shutout loss, came out buzzing and never let Tampa establish any rhythm. Korpisalo, the guy we pegged as the weak link, didn't need to be Dominik Hasek when his team was controlling play and burying chances. Meanwhile, Hildeby's .914 save percentage and "tight game" reputation meant nothing when the Rangers offense decided to throw a parade.
Tampa's vaunted full-strength roster—Kucherov, Cernak, Carlson all available—managed one lonely goal. The rest advantage? Irrelevant. The market priced New York at 64.7 percent for a reason, and we should've listened. Sometimes the sharp angle is just the wrong angle. Lightning got torched, our -1.5 ticket went up in smoke, and the Rangers reminded everyone that goalie stats don't mean squat when you can't keep the puck out of your own zone.
