Game Recap
Lightning Strike Falls Short as Predators Edge Thriller 5-4
The Predators squeaked past Tampa Bay 5-4 in a back-and-forth barnburner at Bridgestone Arena, proving once again that home ice and a little Nashville grit can overcome even the most potent offenses. This one had playoff intensity written all over it—four lead changes, special teams flexing, and neither goalie getting much help until it mattered most.
Tampa's firepower showed up as advertised with four goals, but defensive lapses and an inability to lock down the third period cost them dearly. The Lightning have been leaking goals lately, and Nashville's opportunistic forwards made them pay. Credit to the Preds for capitalizing when it counted—this wasn't pretty hockey, but it was effective.
The Bolts outshot Nashville in stretches but couldn't solve the home squad when trailing late. Special teams likely played a role, and you have to wonder if Tampa's blue line fatigue is becoming a real issue on this road swing. Meanwhile, Nashville's depth scoring continues to be the difference-maker in tight games.
DarkHorse didn't publish a pick here, which in hindsight looks wise—this game was a coin flip dressed up as a hockey match. High-scoring chaos isn't always profitable chaos. The Predators cash in at home, and Tampa heads out of Tennessee with nothing but frequent flyer miles.
