Magic Stun MSG, Expose Knicks' Early-Season Chaos in 111-102 Road Victory
Well, that was embarrassing. The Magic rolled into Madison Square Garden without Paolo Banchero and Jonathan Isaac, and promptly handed the Knicks their third straight loss to open the season, 111-102. So much for home court stabilizing anything.
DarkHorse's Knicks -305 pick looked bulletproof on paper—healthy KAT and Brunson against a skeleton crew Orlando squad that had been hemorrhaging 123.5 points per game. Instead, the undermanned Magic played with the kind of cohesion and purpose the Knicks couldn't muster despite their star power advantage. Orlando's depth pieces stepped up while New York's "projected starting five" looked like five guys who just met at shootaround.
The Knicks are now 0-3, and the excuses are running thin. Yes, it's early. Yes, there are new pieces integrating. But losing as massive home favorites to a team missing its best player and defensive anchor? That's not growing pains—that's a red flag. Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson combined for their numbers, sure, but clearly the sum of New York's parts isn't adding up to wins.
Meanwhile, Orlando moves to 1-2 and suddenly looks like the kind of scrappy outfit that could surprise people while waiting for Banchero's return. The Knicks? They better find answers fast, because MSG is getting restless.
