Mahle Meltdown Sinks Braves as Twins Roll to Easy 4-1 Victory

MLB

So much for that elite starting pitcher advantage. Tyler Mahle's microscopic 0.75 ERA lasted exactly one trip through Minneapolis, where the Twins tagged him for four runs and sent the Braves limping to a 4-1 defeat. Our -127 pick never had a pulse.

The math looked bulletproof on paper—a 4.59 ERA gap between Mahle and Zebby Matthews screaming value even at road chalk prices. Except Matthews didn't pitch like a 5.34 ERA guy, and Mahle sure as hell didn't pitch like someone with a 0.75. The Twins jumped early and often, building a cushion that turned Atlanta's bats into spectators. One measly run is all the Braves could scratch across, making that projected 60% win probability look like fantasy baseball.

Credit where it's due: Minnesota protected home turf for a second straight night, and their offense showed up when it mattered. But this one stings because the handicap was sound—sometimes your ace just doesn't have it, and four earned runs later you're cashing Twins tickets instead. Small sample ERAs lie. Mahle reminded us why you can't bank on three starts of dominance, and the Braves reminded us why road favorites stay dangerous even when the numbers say otherwise. Twins 4, Braves 1. Pick missed. Moving on.
