Game Recap
Mammoth Steamroll Blackhawks 6-0, DarkHorse Pick Implodes on Opening Night
The Mammoth turned their home opener into a statement game, blanking the Blackhawks 6-0 in a performance that made our Blackhawks +1.5 pick look foolish from puck drop. Chicago never had a pulse.
We leaned on Spencer Knight's "serviceable" .889 save percentage to keep this within a goal. Instead, Knight got shelled while Sebastian Cossa — the guy we flagged for his concerning .857 SV% — posted a shutout and made our scouting report look like it was written for a different goalie. Turns out small sample sizes cut both ways, and Cossa chose tonight to remind everyone why he was a first-round pick.
The Mammoth's depth issues? Non-existent. Their offensive execution? Clinical. Chicago's back-to-back fatigue and missing pieces (Bedard, Mangiapane) weren't just obstacles — they were death sentences. The Blackhawks managed to make a six-goal beatdown look competitive only in the sense that it could've been eight.
Our handicap assumed Chicago would show up and compete. They didn't. When your goalie can't stop beach balls and your offense generates nothing against a netminder we thought was vulnerable, +1.5 might as well be +15. Mammoth covered everything, and we're left holding an ugly loss to start the season.
