Mariners Can't Solve Dodgers Despite Pitching Edge, Fall 4-2 as Run Line Misses

MLB

The Mariners limped into Chavez Ravine with every reason to believe they'd keep this close—Emerson Hancock's pristine 3.16 ERA against Eric Lauer's bloated 6.69, a decimated Dodgers bullpen held together by duct tape and prayers. Instead, Seattle managed just two runs and watched our Mariners +1.5 pick die a quiet death in a 4-2 loss.

Hancock did his part, navigating LA's lineup without disaster, but the Seattle offense—surprise, surprise—couldn't capitalize on the massive pitching advantage we identified. Lauer, who should've been batting practice on paper, somehow kept the Mariners at bay long enough for the Dodgers to build a cushion. Los Angeles scratched across four runs, and their patchwork bullpen, missing eight key arms, still managed to shut the door.

The cruel irony? We only needed Seattle to lose by one run to cash. They lost by two. That's baseball in its most infuriating form—the right read, the right logic, and a lineup that forgot how to hit with runners in scoring position. The Mariners covered the starter mismatch but couldn't cover the spread. Sometimes the math works and the bats don't. Dodgers win, DarkHorse takes the L, and we move on to the next card.
