Mariners Cruise Past Angels, Cover Blows Out DarkHorse Pick

The Mariners snapped their three-game skid in emphatic fashion, dismantling the Angels 7-2 at Angel Stadium and making our Angels +1.5 call look foolish in the process. So much for "near-even matchup" and "erratic away offense" — Seattle's bats woke up exactly when we bet against them.

George Kirby, who we pegged at a pedestrian 4.25 ERA, carved through Anaheim's lineup while the Mariners built a comfortable cushion that never felt threatened. The final margin of five runs obliterated the +1.5 spread we championed, and there's no sugarcoating it: we read this one wrong. The theory was sound — a modest starter gap shouldn't justify laying runs on the road — but baseball doesn't care about theory when one team simply executes and the other doesn't.

The Angels +1.5 needed LA to keep it within a run or pull the upset outright. Instead, they got boat-raced. Yusei Kikuchi's 4.75 ERA proved more prophetic than Kirby's, and Seattle's "erratic" road offense found plenty of rhythm when it mattered. Losing streaks end eventually; ours just happened to end on the wrong side of this one. The Mariners covered -1.5 with room to spare, and we took the loss.
